Another sound toy

rainbow

A new take on the classical xylophone toy. I like the curves and how it departs from a rigid structure of a xylophone. It's a Swiss toy, as can be seen from the nice wooden feel of the toy.

  • The luminance and simplicity of the arches inspire to continually want to discover new combination's of color and tone, and the ball rolls round the rainbow run.
  • Designed by Heiko Hillig.

Soundtrack literally.

I saw this toy on this website and i thought that it was quite cool. The working principle is based upon the music box that you have to wind yourself . So what happens is that when each of the flap goes over a bump, it is plucked and a sound is produced. So each of those flaps is a different note, so you can actually play a sound by placing the bumps at specific locations. In this case, the flaps are attached to a wind-up train that goes around a track with bumps on it.

I think that kids would be amazed at this toy and will be kept curious on how the sound is produced but i feel that it would be even cooler if users are able to place the bumps where they want. The track could have rows of holes in which pegs can be inserted. In this way, kids and adults are able to investigate the musical relationship with the physical properties, mainly the rhythm with the distance between the bumps and after that, they can even compose their own tunes.
